Research Proposal

Gentrification is a process of neighborhood regeneration by relatively affluent incomes. The gentrification of Harlem has represented a significant role in New York City in the last decades. This transformation has been a long-term process and isn’t just happen in a year. The idea of the rent-gap; increased the property’s value, has led Harlem to gentrified and affect many original residents.

I’m interested in the cause of Harlem gentrification and the influence on society. Harlem is one of the community parts of New York City, and I should learn more about this area and historical events since I’m living in this city. I want to go beyond and write about the background of Harlem. What potential does Harlem have, and what causes it gentrified by the wealthier people? What are the impacts on the residents?

Black residents and the working class were the roots of Harlem, while the White population increases. They began to focus on Harlem as their commercial area and began to develop this community into their own. In this essay, I would focus on the theory that had caused Harlem gentrified, the process/ plan, and how long it takes, and the effects of this transformation on the residents.
